Masking and Human Rights law in BC

Autistic students — especially girls — often mask their natural behaviours to fit in at school, and when educators implicitly or explicitly demand this conformity, it can amount to disability-based discrimination under BC law. Drawing on the BC School Act, Human Rights Code s.8, Charter s.15, and Moore v. BC, this piece argues that pressure to mask can deny meaningful access to education and breach duty-of-care obligations.
