This page explains how School District 59 Peace River South expects parents, students, and community members to raise concerns or pursue appeals, drawing together the district’s “Resolution of Student or Parent Concerns” guidance and the Student Appeal Procedure (Bylaw 3-08) under the School Act.
SD59 serves Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge and surrounding communities on the traditional, unceded territories of the Dane-Zaa, Cree, and other Indigenous peoples.
SD59 emphasises the importance of open communication and positive relationships between families and schools. Parents and students are encouraged to address issues as early and directly as possible and to pursue resolution through dialogue with school staff and administration.
Most issues are expected to be resolved through informal discussion before advancing to a formal appeal.
The board’s Student Appeal Procedure sets out the formal mechanism under School Act s. 11 for decisions that significantly affect the education, health, or safety of a student.
